Skrrt skrrt! Which is the most powerful?

The best way to increase power on a car is through forced induction; which means you are putting as much air into the cylinder as you can. When people want to go faster, they resort to turbo or supercharger modifications. A turbo is a turbine in a snail shaped housing. The psi you program it to spin at is how much boost you’ll make and the amount of air mixing with your fuel. A turbo needs oil and a intercooler to keep from the turbo getting too hot while a supercharger does the same thing but with a different set up. Instead of working off of air the way a supercharger forces air into the the cylinder port is by working of the crank; the faster the crank spins the more boost you make. A supercharger is mounted on the intake manifold while the turbo connects to the throttle body and exhaust.

Many companies are coming out with turbo or supercharged production cars for performance or for efficiency. The technology that companies have came out with have made for inducted cars more reliable and efficient. From a v6 truck with a turbo to a sports car with a supercharged v8 engineers have revolutionized the way we look at forced induction. Before they were reliable, people did not really like turbos or superchargers because of the fact that there was a lot of problems with them but now people prefer them.

My opinion on this subject is that both have their own areas where they excel. For example a turbo can make a car fuel efficient and can make more power than a supercharger depending on how you set it up. The cons of a turbo is they have turbo lag which  is the time it takes for the turbine to spool turbos are also high maintenance they require oil and coolant for the intercooler and it is difficult to install. A supercharger can synthesize a lot of power, doesn’t require a lot of maintenance,  and is easy to install. The down side of a supercharger is that you have to wait longer for your car to heat up and the power increase is not as high as a turbo. My choice would be a supercharger cause of the noise they make and the even power band.
