What Is High School?

Sarah Rose Aguilar, Reporter

What do you think high school is? Is it a place to goof off and get nothing done? Or is it a place where your future lies and you have the decision to either be mature and do what you have to do or is it the opposite of that? Well, to me that’s a very simple question. High school is a place that prepares you for college and the world. Sure there’s more to it, but what about the things in high school that doesn’t prepare you.

Let’s take math for example. Yeah it may seem important if you’re going to become an accountant when you’re done with high school, but other than that there’s no use in it for me. All we really have to know is adding, subtracting, dividing, and of course other stuff. What we don’t need to know is graphing because if I want to buy a house I’m not going to graph out how much I’ll be paying for it each year. It’s a waste of time.

Other than the things that we don’t seem important in high school, there’s the change that everyone goes through. We get taller, bigger, skinnier, and most importantly we grow and mature to young adults. Of course there are the ones who don’t and that’s probably because they’re scared of the real world. I get it because just thinking of all those bills and worries it overwhelms you and stresses you out so much. We may not have experience with it yet, but from what I’ve seen it looks scary. And if you’re not prepared for the world, well, let’s just say that it won’t stop immediately so that you could catch up. That’s why high school is important and why you should take it serious if you really don’t want to worry about bills and how you have to catch up on everything.

Above all else, if you do what you have to then in your senior year you won’t need to worry about catching up and going to summer school. That’ll be stressful. High school is important and I’m glad we have it since these years should be the best years of your life.
