GABRIEL LUIS ACOSTA

The new Math and Science building here on campus has been opened for use since the first day of this school year. The passing of recent Colton city mayor, David Zamora, in July 2011, has been the subject of talk among many school board members, and now they are considering dedicating the new Math and Science building to him. This would send a positive message, and we support it.
Zamora worked in this community for 28 years until his retirement in 2009 and was an elected member of the school board for 13 of those years. His dedication to our community has always been displayed and greatly appreciated among Colton residents. Bringing his name to CHS will honor all he has done for our community and will make sure that the work he did will never be forgotten.
A brand new school in the Colton School District, Baca Middle School, has also been dedicated to an honored citizen, long-time area Congressman Joe Baca. Does this affect how people view our schools? When you take the time to appreciate work that has been put into your community it makes the schools look a lot better because it shows that people do care about the students and want better for them. Zamora’s  loss was a devastating one to anyone who cared for him but dedicating the new building to him will make sure his legacy of service to Colton is never forgotten.
At the least people will begin to wonder why he deserves this honor and look into how Zamora impacted citizens’ lives here. This will be a great addition to our campus. It’s time to recognize Zamora’s impact on the Colton community. The Pepper Bough supports naming the new Math and Science building the “David Zamora Memorial Math and Science Wing.”

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
