On Monday, October 31st, 2011 Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries filed for divorce from their 72 day marriage. The famous couple stated that the cause of their divorce was their many “irreconcilable differences.” However, there are many beliefs as to why they divorced. Some believe it was due to their settling location, others believe it was because of Kim’s frustration with Kris’ “party over work” attitude. Some also believe that the marriage was faked, and was just used as a way to gain publicity and more wealth for both celebrities.
Often times, celebrity marriages like this one take away the value of sincere marriages. They always seem to propose to their partner a little too soon, and end up in divorce. Many times it is difficult to even determine if celebrity couples are getting married for the love, or for the money. This is why divorce rates among celebrities are unusually high. Short marriages like these ruin the representation and true meaning of the experience of marriage.
While some individuals are legally allowed to take advantage of this sacred joining of two people, others are not even allowed to wed because it is against the law for them. Homosexual couples are only allowed to get legally married in seven states out of the fifty that we have here in the United States. These states allowing gay marriages are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Washington D.C. It seems truly unfair that gay couples have these major restrictions against them, not allowing them to legally marry, while some celebrity couples don’t value their rights and take advantage of them.
