Tornado in Dallas Texas

Cole Marullo, reporter

A tornado just landed in Dallas Texas and has left trails of devastation and destruction along its path. The tornado ripped through hundreds of homes and buildings destroying small communities.

During the time the tornado landed their was thunderous clouds with lots of rain pouring. The tornado being the strongest one that landed but it wasn’t the only one. Over 9 tornados landed on Sunday October 20th 2019 from Dallas all the way to wills point. The Tornado sent many people in the area without power throughout Sunday. The strongest tornado has maximum speeds of 140 mph and a path length of 15 miles. The Tornado also lifted objects upward of 20,000 feet high in the air.

The Tornado’s path was from northwest Dallas to Richardson. With the weakest being around 100 mph winds.  One particular Tornado was rated EF-3 but was only for a short while so only a couple building took EF-3 damage. One building being a family’s house which got its entire roof ripped off and multiple walls collapsing in from the intense winds. Officials even looked at the damage and found that the house was extremely sturdy without multiple thick heavy beams and the roof lifted up. This shows the intense power that was needed to destroy this specific home. All the other Tornadoes were rated around EF-2 and EF-1 most being EF-2.

After the tornado many people tried to file insurance claims which led to a total of over $2 billion in insured losses. This being over $8 billion more than the last major tornado in 2015. The $2 billion was from all nine tornados which landed across Dallas Texas on Sunday. Many homeowners who were not insured won’t even get help from the government because of that reason and have to rely on possible companies and donations from others.

Overall a lot of homes, schools, and businesses in the area and overall community got hit pretty hard last night and are still trying to recover and get their insurance companies to pay for repairs etc.
