Net Neutrality is safe in California

Governor, Jerry Brown signed a bill for Net Neutrality, which is meant to restore the Net Neutrality protections that chairman of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Ajit Pai (promoted to chairman by President Trump) got rid of earlier this year. This new bill stops internet service providers such as AT&T and Verizon from slowing or blocking our access to legal online content, such as Youtube, Twitter, Instagram. It is also to make sure that they cannot demand consumers to pay for a certain amount of time on those said platforms. Governor Brown signed the bill without comment on it.

As expected, Pai was not happy with this. The Chairman called this action “illegal” and “that it was the most egregious example of a state’s determination to flout the FCC policy.” Internet service providers such as AT&T and Verizon say that they don’t block or slow down any of the content that is legal and that they are 100% with a free and open internet. However, they have argued that it is unrealistic for them to comply with a patchwork of regulations across our country. Jonathan Spalter, the chief executive and president of the United States Telecom Association, said this on the matter, “We all support strong and enforceable net neutrality protections for every American – regardless of where they may live”.

Ever since the proposal to get rid of Net Neutrality, protests have been going on about it. Protesters would gather in front of a Verizon store in New York City and protest that Net Neutrality is freedom of speech and that losing Net Neutrality is a violation of the Bill of Rights / Constitution.

The thing is though, the Net Neutrality proposal and a lot of its vote were completely bogus. People who were deceased were commenting and voting for Net Neutrality to be gone. I am sure that you can see what is wrong with that. People were extremely angry that their late relatives were being used to fake votes. Even former President Barack Obama voted for Net Neutrality to be eradicated! Even though he was the one who passed a bill that sure that Net Neutrality was safe in his presidential term.
