Woman found dead in freezer raises questions

Monzerat Gonzalez, Reporter

According to the family of Kenneka Jenkins, Jenkins was attending a party with her friends at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Jenkins and her friends arrived at the Crowne Plaza hotel around 1:13am and was reported missing at 2:00am by her friends, which was ironic because how can someone go missing in that short time of amount, with friends around?

The family of Jenkins wasn’t able to see the surveillance video of the hotel until Jenkins was reported missing. Once Jenkins family had permission to view the surveillance video, she was seen at 3:30am in an unused kitchen and locked herself in a freezer. According to the Cook County medical examiner, Jenkins had died from hypothermia. Alcohol and topiramate medication which treats epilepsy and migraines, was in Jenkins system. However, Jenkins was never prescribed this type of medication, which even contributed to her death, her alcohol level was at 112. Making Jenkins too drunk to drive. Jenkin’s body wasn’t found until 21 hours later,  prior to walking into the freezer.

Nowadays hotels should have 24/7 surveillance on duty to see what’s actually happening in the halls during the night. A hotel is a place where someone can spend the night and feel just right at home and being protected. If there were 24 hour surveillance then Jenkins could have been saved.
