Vandals hit local mailboxes

People breaking into mailboxes in the city of Colton? It would seem so.

On January 24 mailboxes in both Colton and Grand Terrace were damaged, according to Colton’s post office. Lots of mail boxes get broken into and there are many reasons why people break into them and they’re not good reasons. People break into mail for Identity theft or to to steal checks to get personal information; what makes it worse is that it is tax season. Hopefully this is not the case, this could just be people who want to vandalize. The USPS warned people about this a couple months before Christmas.

One victim from this vandalism said, “I was very surprised , this has never happened to me and in this area.” Another resident added,“ Since the boxes are being vandalized there’s no where  to put mail, so we’re left with having to go all the way to the post office to receive our mail.” This is a very serious matter and some people don’t realize it but they can be in great danger and they could get into some serious problems. For the vandals they can face serious charges like be sent to prison–it is a Federal crime to steal from mailboxes.
The vandalized mailboxes were repaired within the week. “I was worried they were gonna take months to fix this,” said one of the victims.
