On Sunday evening in the cities of Homs and Damascus; 140 people were killed due to a bomb blast. The city of Homs, resident city of the President al-Assad, had a reported 83 dead and 178 wounded solely in the city. The addition of bombs detonated by in Damascus brings the total to 140 killed in the matter of one day.

The proprietors of this attack, The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, have become notorious due to these types of attack. In the past month, the group has also targeted the same district of Homs with a bombing that left over 70 people dead. The two cities targeted are known to practice a different type of islamic religion which goes strictly against the the Muslim ideology that extremist group ISIS professes. The city of Damascus and the city of Homs are home to a prominent minority. This minority goes against the beliefs of ISIS which was a major reason for their attacks. Homs in specific, a former district controlled by rebels, has seen the most frequent attack being performed.

The attacks on these two cities come a short time after countries such as the U.S. and Russia had created a temporary truce to cease fire on each other. Although, both countries would still lend help to Syria, they would not fire on each other. In the case of Russian powers, they would still help to fight againsts rebelist groups that counter the Syrian president.
