School shootings: the New Normal?

School shootings are becoming too common. Whether perpetrated by one who attends the school, or someone that feels the need to kill kids who are just trying to get their education, school violence is all over the news. Our own brush with a possible threat happened Oct. 9th, with a possible shooting threat uncovered. So we here in Colton are not even immune.

Statistics have shown that there has been in increase in school shootings. It has been a drastic increase since 2000 up to now. Teachers, students, parents, grandparents and so on all worry for the lives that get threatened. What can our schools do to help enforce little to no threats or shootings?

After Colton High recently experienced a threat of their own, administrators have become more cautious and alert. Many schools have gone the extra mile and hired more school security. Some schools even have local city police stop by once in awhile just to enforce safety, awareness, give everyone a peace of mind, and a to inform them they are safe. The charts referenced here show just how much violence has increased in our public schools. It’s a sobering reminder to stay alert, stay safe, and be on the lookout for anything unusual.
