Reyna Chavez brings the resilience and tenacity she showed on the basketball court to her campaign for Prom Queen.

Prom Court 2022: Reyna Chavez takes her shot at Prom Queen

All-around socialite Reyna has not allowed the challenges of this senior year stop her from enjoying the moment

Reyna Chavez is one of our Prom Queen nominees for Prom this year, and a rather popular one at that.

“I’m friends with all the classmen,” Reyna explains, “like from freshmen up to seniors. I have a really good involvement with the freshmen just because I’m in Link Crew and I feel like that’s what makes me different.”

Reyna is a Link Crew leader and varsity girls basketball player. She uses that to get to know as many people as she can. Through Link Crew, freshman; through Basketball, everyone else.

She’s forever curious about everyone’s stories and differences, and loves getting to know them.

Because of her humble connections with all four classes, Reyna thinks she’s got a winning shot at Prom Queen.

Humble connections and humble understandings are what also make Reyna who she is. She wants everyone voting to know they are voting for a friend.

Both Link Crew and basketball are essential parts of her high school career. But basketball is special because Reyna’s been playing all four years she has been at CHS.

Unfortunately, Reyna’s final season was cut short. While walking home after practice in late January, Reyna was struck by a speeding car on Rancho Avenue. The injuries she faced forced her to sit on the bench for a while. But Reyna isn’t the type to leave her girls on the team hanging. On Senior Night, while still in recovery, Reyna cheered on her teammates from the sidelines, and managed to end the season with a layup.

Resilience plays a key part in any sport, and she’s been showing hers as she’s made a full recovery from that accident.

Since then, she’s been spending her time focusing on recent Link Crew activities and her hobbies.

I’m friends with all the classmen, like from freshmen up to seniors. I have a really good involvement with the freshmen just because I’m in Link Crew and I feel like that’s what makes me different.

— Reyna Chavez

“For fun I like to go out with my friends, play around with my makeup, and do fun looks.”

Her time spent running for Prom Queen brought her closer to friends and family as well. She’s received help from Hoco Court member Brooke Carlson for her pins, and her parents helped her with her campaign posters.

Prom is all about fun times and having a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Since Reyna is a senior she plans to take her shot at becoming Prom Queen while making the most of this experience because, “You might as well.”
