Harriet Tubman and ex-President Andrew Jackson were two amazing people who had totally different lives. Tubman was a black woman that escaped slavery to become a “conductor” on the so-called Underground Railroad, risking her life to lead slaves to freedom; while Jackson was the son of Scots-Irish immigrants and an owner of  slaves. He was elected president as a war hero and became known for policies that led to the deaths of countless Native Americans.

Soon though, the two will have one thing in common– and that is to be the face on the $20 bill. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said Tubman would replace Jackson on the front of the $20 bill.

Tubman will be the first woman in more than a century and first African American to to be the face of American currency. Jackson will not completely desert the bill, as he will be featured on the back, alongside an image of the White House. According to the L.A. Times, even former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke wrote that Tubman was an “excellent and deserving choice.” This brave woman might have finally gotten the respect she deserves.
