Social Studies star teacher Holly Lacy: back to where it all began

Priscilla Urban and Brenda Mendivil, Reporters

Holly Lacy, a former teacher at Grand Terrace High School, is now back at her favorite school, Colton High, where she began her tenure at this district many years ago.

She tells us that the difference between Grand Terrace and Colton is the students. The students here are more grateful and the spirit is “all around great.”

Why did she come back to Colton High?  “I miss my home and my family. She’s the best in California!” she notes with a laugh.

Lacy works with sophomores and seniors teaching World History and Econ/POD, but she says that shes loves her seniors and how mature and energetic they are. Sharing her likes and dislikes with us she states, “I dislike acne, cheaters, liars, and kids with no purpose. I like reading, writing, and listening to Oingo Boingo. Oingo Boingo is the greatest band that has ever lived.”

Lacy has been around long enough that some of her colleagues are fomer students, such as Social Studies teacher Michael Esquivel and ASB Advisor Olivia Conboy.

Lacy had been married 18 years and has two sons. She tells us before she ever wanted to become a teacher, her goal was to be a lawyer, but she didn’t have the money for a good school. “If I weren’t a teacher I would have become a stand up comedian,” she jokes, adding, “Actually, I would have became a math teacher if I didn’t go into history. My senior math teacher made math so much easier for me.”

Lacy loves Colton and Colton High students. She says she wouldn’t want to be at any other school with any other kids. Colton is home for her and she loves everything we do. Here’s a warm welcome back for Holly Lacy!
