Re-Vamping the Stooges in Time For Their Return

Re-Vamping the Stooges in Time For Their Return

The dynamic comedy trio from long ago is back and on the big screen. Of course it is not going to be the original lineup, but a revamped ecstatic one that seemingly won’t upset, according to the evidence in the trailers already in theaters and all your television sets.  It has been about five decades since the Three Stooges’ legacy has come out with something new, exploding the kidneys of all from sheer laughter and content. The new movie will be released April 13th of this year, finally making another appearance. Yes, Moe, Curly and Larry are back again. There are a lot of things you do not know about these iconic stooges.

Having more than five different lineups, all with the same eccentric fiascoes going, the excitement will be sure to show up in the new recordings; just not necessarily with the most known line up of Moe, Curly, and Larry. They started off in 1925, with the name of Ted Healy and the Stooges. Brothers Joe and Shemp joined and soon after Larry Fine and Fred Sanborn. The first feature film released by Fox Film Corporation “Soup to Nuts”; though it was not a great performance by the main attraction, Ted Healy and the Stooges seemed to catch the attention of major corporations. Trying to deal without Healy didn’t work; he tried to use copyright action and bomb threats to stop the trio from going on their own. Finally, they came to an agreement and booked tours, but soon after, he left the Stooges to pursue better things. Now, the group consisted of the two Howard brothers, Moe and Shemp, with the help of Larry Fine. Soon fed up with Healy, Shemp left the group. In need of a new member, Moe suggested his younger brother Jerry Howard, and soon came his character, Curly, who became a great success short after. Now with a contract settled, in 1934 they started production with Columbia Pictures releasing hilarious material. The became extremely popular, filming from 1934-1941, coming to age with memorable films like “Loco Boy Makes Good” and “A Gem of a Jam”.

Brother Shemp returned to fill in the big hole left by Curly’s departure, but intending to be only temporary until Curly was back. Sadly, Curly wasn’t able to return. He died due to suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage on January 18, 1952. Three years after Curly’s passing, Shemp died due to a heart attack on November 23, 1955 at the age of 60. Joe Besser replaced Shemp for 16 shorts. With the Columbia contract coming to an end, the Stooges still had enough material to last them 18 months. However, Besser’s wife had a minor heart attack, forcing him to leave the Stooges.

They made a comeback in 1959, and brought in Joe DeRita, who assumed the new role of Curly Joe. The Stooges went on to film full-length movies from 1959 to 1965. By 1969, the Stooges were retired but were offered a new TV series. During production, Larry suffered a paralyzing stroke on January 9, 1970. At the age of 72, he had another stroke, which left him in a coma; a week later, he died, on January 24, 1975. Even with the death of a Stooge, Moe decided to keep going, but soon after he developed lung cancer and later on died from it on May 4, 1975.

The Stooges were an original, once in a life time comedic experience, and will forever be in the childhood memories of your parents and grandparents. They are one of the most notable trios ever to hit the TV screen, and will finally be coming back as the hilarious trio we all know and love.
