Becoming Aware of the Actions to Take When Witnessing a Car Accident

Becoming Aware of the Actions to Take When Witnessing a Car Accident

What exactly do you do when you witness a fatal or minor car or motorcycle crash, or any type of collision, for that matter? Should you go and see if everything is okay or do you call 911 right away? Questions like these are often not thought about during our day, but they really should be; accidents do occur when least expected. For instance, in this past week I’ve witnessed two car crashes. The first occurred Sunday January 22, 2012 at 6:42pm, by our very own school Colton High School, 20 ft. passing the bridge hiding towards the freeway ramp on Rancho.

The second crash occurred the next day at approximately 7:28 am before entering my first period class on N 2nd St. It was, according to my teacher, a “little finder bender” but there were pieces of debris on the ground, and the vehicle itself looked to be in bad conditions. So what should you do when you see a crash occur? You should call 911; no matter what incident has happened, it is imperative to call 911 right away. You should try helping by talking to the person or making sure they are okay. You can help but that may also lead to serious problems. If you are not a trained personnel, you should just call 911 and help the cops by telling them what you have seen, if you happened to witness the event itself.

This led me to be prepared for anything. I set 911 to my speed dial #2 and also, I am more aware of what goes on around me. So be prepared, always have a plan and remember these tips. If you need more, it won’t hurt to research. If you witnessed something and it happens to shock you talk to someone about it or better yet write a story about it.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
