Athlete of the month, December: Cynthia Covarrubias, Soccer

Erica Tapia, Reporter

Playing soccer is not just a sport to her, it is a dream she always lives on everyday. Junior Cynthia Covarrubias  has played soccer since she was six. Covarrubias fell in love with the game and a bond that was created with her team. It feels like an escape to her from everything in her life. She also loves Cheerleading, Track, and Softball when not concentrating on soccer. Soccer is one of the most important parts throughout her life–she plans to play soccer for many more years, and as a college student. She plans to have her dreams come true as a soccer player.

Covarrubias has been every position but goalie, she has been in varsity ever since her freshman year at Colton High School. Before every game she listens to music to pump her up for the games. She also uses motivational quotes to help her. “I can do all things through christ who strengthens me.” by Phil:4:13. Every game she prays she does her best and to be safe out in the field. Her coach, Mr. Florez, has taught her stuff and has benefitted her talent.

Practices are every weekday from 3pm-4:15pm; games are usually on Wednesdays and Fridays. Covarrubias dedicated herself to go to every practice and every game to try her best and take her win for her teammates. Soccer player Covarrubias dreams to keep playing the one thing she loves truly.
