Frances Mendoza, FFA President in 1983, enjoys the first place “Welcome to Polynesia” exhibit.

Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

In September 1983, the Future Farmers of America (FFA) at Colton High School won several awards at the Los Angeles County Fair.

First place in landscaping, which included an award of $200, went to the Colton “Welcome to Polynesia” exhibit. In addition to the first place victory, in the feature booths category, Colton took third place for “Silk flowers are made for special occasions,” winning $80.

Several other Colton FFA members were recognized in table decorating, including Mike Washington, Gina Glockner, and Frances Mendoza.
