Captain Marvel underwhelming to audience

Captain Marvel is Marvel Studios’ most recently released movie. It’s total run time is around 2 hours and 5 minutes. So far, the reviews I see for Captain Marvel are very mixed, some saying the movie is the best movie of the decade, while others are saying it wasn’t good at all. I’m here to share what I thought the movie was like. I’m going to divide the review into two sections: the story and the acting.

I found the story to be lacking. It was not a bad story, but it wasn’t good either. I think that the story dragged on a lot, and it was really lacking at some points. The movie seemed really simple because Captain Marvel was really overpowered. Throughout the story, if she was in a sticky situation, she would just dominate everything in her path. There was only one moment in the movie where she was actually weakened. And even at that moment, she just got out of it in one of those “ Ex Machina “ moments. In other Marvel movies, we see the character struggle. For example, in Spiderman: Homecoming, Spiderman was on the verge of death when the climax of the movie happened. It isn’t a good movie if the character can’t struggle. I also felt that the fight scenes were really lacking, and one of the reasons is because of her being overpowered. I am a huge fan of Sci-Fi movies, but the fight scenes in this movie felt too Sci-Fi. They needed to be balanced.

The acting was average. I felt that the only character that was really invested in the movie was Samuel L. Jackson or Nick Fury. Samuel L. Jackson has always been a good actor. Other than that, the acting just felt in the middle. It wasn’t bad acting, but it certainly wasn’t good either. Same situation with the story. The acting was not special because the characters didn’t put in enough effort.

This movie wasn’t anything special. In my opinion, it was on par with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Iron Man 2. I felt that the movie was just filler and so that the Avengers have an Ex Machina when they fight Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
