Halloween is just around the corner, even if it doesn’t feel like that here in Colton. Halloween vibes include being full of candy, staying up later, going out with with your family or friends, visiting haunted houses, haunted hayrides, and watching movies. If you feel like you aren’t in that spooky fun vibes yet, I’ve created a list of classic Halloween movies.

An all time favorite: “The Nightmare Before Christmas”(1993) from director Tim Burton. Description: “ A bored Halloween pumpkin king kidnaps Santa and takes over Christmas. This isn’t going to be pretty.”

“Coraline” (2009) from director Henry Selick. Description: “Curious young Caroline unlocks a door in her family’s home and is transported to a universe that strangely resembles her own — only better.”

“Corpse Bride” (2005) from director Tim Burton. Description: “How does a deceased woman abduct a young groom into the underworld? Through a grave misunderstanding.”

“The Addams Family” (1991) by director Barry Sonnenfeld. Description: “Stepping out of the pages of Charles Addams’ cartoons and the 1960s television series, members of the beloved, macabre family take to the big screen.”

“Haunted House” (2006) by director Gil Kenan. Description: “No adults believe three youths’ assertion that a neighboring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.”

“Beetlejuice” (1998) by director Tim Burton. Description: “After Barbara and Adam Maitland die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes and teen daughter Lydia buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice, a rambunctious spirit whose “help” quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.”

“Hocus Pocus” (1993) by director Kenny Ortega. Description: “After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani and their new friend, Allison. After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.”

So sit back with some Halloween candy, or maybe some popcorn, and be ready to be thrilled and scared with this classic collection of horror flicks.
