This year has been a great year for television, right? Not just for the viewers at home, but also for the actors, because it gives them a chance to win their own Emmy award!
Winning an Emmy is a huge accomplishment for actors. The nominations were given out on July 19, presented by Kerry Washington of Scandal and Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the Emmys in September and received a nomination in the variety series category.
The list included many of last year’s nominees, including Mad Men and Modern Family. The award for Outstanding Drama Series went to Showtime’s thriller series Homeland, which broke the Mad Men’s four-year hold on the award; while the Outstanding Comedy Series went to ABC’s Modern Family for a third straight year.
The political drama telefilm Game Change, chronicling the 2008 presidential election and the intrigue surrounding the nomination of Sarah Palin for Vice President, won the award for Outstanding Miniseries or TV Movie.
The award for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series went to Comedy Cental’s hit politcal comedy program The Daily Show. Outstanding Reality-Competition Program was taken by CBS’s The Amazing Race. The award for Outstanding Host for a Reality-Competition Program went to Tom Bergeron, beating American Idol‘s Ryan Seacrest.
Let’s get to the big actors/actresses who won the big awards. For Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Damian Lewis as Nicholas Brody on Homeland. The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series went to his co-star Clarie Danes as Carrie Mathision . Outstanding Lead Actor on a Comedy Series was awarded to Jon Cryer as Dr. Alan Harper on Two and a Half Men. The award to Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series was taken by Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer on Veep.
After the ceremony, the celebrities went out to party and congratulate themselves for their accomplishments.
