These X Factor alumni have probably put out one of the most unappreciated pop albums of 2015. UK Girl Group Little Mix have set the bar high with the pleasing sounds of strong vocals and the undeniable sound of catchy tunes, bringing back the 80s vibe.

Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, Leigh Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson have recently dropped their third studio album titled, Get Weird  and it definitely has passion, sass, and a whole lot of attitude. Get Weird not only features the unbelievable vocal ability of the quartet but the writing ability as well. The group co-wrote more than half of their album and they had the opportunity to write with talented artist such as Jessie J, Jess Glynne, and Jason Derulo. From the touching love ballads such as  “Secret Love Song” to the dance bops like “OMG”, this album is sure to keep the listener entertained and on the edge of their seat.

Get Weird is like an explosion of color and personality with ballads, acapellas, dance bops and just a hint of ‘in your face’ confidence. No two songs sound alike  which makes the album even better. “Black Magic” is the first track off the album and happens to be the group’s first single. This 80s influence track provides fans with an incredible catchy chorus such as “Take a sip of my secret potion, I’ll make you fall in love, for a spell that can’t be broken, one drop should be enough, boy you belong to me, I got the recipe, and it’s called black magic.” The “potion” is actually represented as having confidence in yourself and it being the only kind of spell you need to fall in love.

Other songs like “Love Me Like You” provides a motown feel of doo wop perfection with a hint of cheekiness in the lyrics. “Secret Love Song” ft. Jason Derulo is a definite show stopper with killer harmonies and vocals from all. “Secret Love Song Pt. II” is the slower and more ballad-like sister to “Secret Love Song”. It also happens to be “Derulo-less” and dare I say it, the song sounds so much better with just the passion of vocals from the girls. (Sorry Jason). This track is definitely a tearjerker for the first listeners. Many fans have taken to twitter claiming “Secret Love Song Pt. II” as the LGBT community’s love anthem. “Weird People”, another 80s influenced track, is the anthem for all outsiders who have trouble fitting into society’s standards. The group chants, “Don’t let them other suckers hate on you cause we’re all weird people.” Little Mix isn’t so little anymore with this next track. Get Weird’s cheekiest song is titled, “A.D.I.D.A.S” which stands for “All Day I Dream About Shhh.” (Interpret the Shhh how you like). The boldness of the lyrics with the innocence of the doo wop themed sound is sure a surprise to the group’s younger fanbase. Pinnock also adds a bit of flavour in the song with a bit of rapping. Sass, sass and even more sass. “OMG” is better and bolder version of Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s “Pretty Girls”. It begins with a Charli xcx chant of “Oh my gosh I did it again.” then adding the 80s vibe of Nu Shooz’s “I Can’t Wait” “Lighting” is said to be a fan favorite. This track is produced perfectly with a R&B influence in the girls vocals with cutting edge production in the music itself. It takes a big step in beat and bass drops, making this track anything but, a disappointment. In the bridge, the group take on a little bit of latin opera before Edwards finishes off with a powerful belt of “I wish I never loved you again.”  Truly amazing.

Get Weird is by far Little Mix’s best album. Harmonies, vocals, and sass are all on point and as an added bonus, you can hear the amount of passion and love put into the album and it’s unbelievable. Get Weird is wickedly amazing and I’m in “L-O-V-E” with this album.
