Grand Terrace Slips Rivalry Game Away from Colton

Mike Wexler, Sports Desk

The Boys Baseball team took the loss against their longtime rival Grand Terrace, 8-6, in an uphill battle that could have gone either way for both teams. Both the Jackets and the Titans both fought for scoring supremacy by gaining multiple RBIs and stopping a lot of potential scores with their strong defensive strategies. However although the battle would be intense throughout the majority of the start of the ball game, it would be Grand Terrace’s Sophomore Pitcher in Noah Parra who would start with an RBI double that would drive two runs in to get the advantage, which would cement the Titans’ lead for the majority of five innings.

Although that RBI kept Colton out of action for a while, they made their comeback as Junior Jordan Campa came out of the box swinging with two hits, which would bring in two scores in to get the offense rolling. That would be followed up by Senior Alex Perez, who tripled and led more of his teammates home to gain the upperhand. This would be the start of what would be a close game between the two rival schools.

Tensions were high in the climax of this game in particular as both teams kept each other on their feet with hot streaks of hits as well as strikeouts. Whether it would be Junior first baseman Jake Valencia with the hot offense or Parra’s strikeout game, both teams struggled to gain an advantage throughout the seventh inning. However it would be Grand Terrace’s Junior Ramon Salazar who really put the nail on the coffin so to speak as he gave the Titans a huge RBI to end the game, 8-6.
