On Thursday, January 19th, the Girls JV team took on reigning Sunkist League Champions, Summit Skyhawks, where they left Summit High School with the win. Colton knew heading into this game that Summit became League Champions which would leave a huge chip on their shoulders but that didn’t stop the determination of winning. Colton came in pumped no matter what happens in the game.

At the start of the game, Summit came out hot, firing up multiple points to get the Lady Jackets in the scoring gap early. It didn’t last for long however as Colton reacted fast and started a scoring barrage of their own drive up ten points. With all the momentum that they gathered, the JV team started to realized that they were super fast, which would lead to a back-and-forth battle for supremacy. By the time it was halftime, the score was set tied at an even twenty points each.

After halftime, Colton came out of the gates blazing hot with their defensive strategies, not letting the Skyhawks score for a majority of the third quarter. Colton started to steal almost every ball and first went into a drive and tricked them to open up and shoot a drain of three pointers. The Jackets would gain the lead and dominate for all of the third quarter, showing that they control the rest of the game.

They kept doing that until in the fourth quarter where Summit’s defense got really harsh and pushed leading scorer, Sophomore Shooting Guard, Alyssa Rosario on her bad knee and she fell straight on the floor. The whole team started to shout timeout to the referees on the offensive due to her aggravated knee, which would take her out for the rest of the game. It took at least two minutes for the referees to realize she was in deep pain. Then, Rosario got up and was helped to the bench where she was severely injured. Colton went to go to finish the game after that Summit started to go even harder on them. After a final layup before the final buzzer, Colton ended the game, winning in the clutch.
