Big news coming from the first round of World Series playoffs as Los Angeles Dodgers Infielder, Chase Utley was recently suspended during Game 2 against the Mets, due to a controversial slide to second base during an attempted double play, causing Mets shortstop, Ruben Tejada to break his leg and be on the DL. Although it was a controversial slide, after more review, all of the umpires still called Utley safe and not out. Only suspended for two games, fans, coaches, and players from that 1st game still question if the call should have stood or be overruled. However, later after that game, MLB officials ruled the slide “illegal” and made the action of suspending Chase Utley from Games 3 & 4 of the NLDS.

The infamous slide was also being called the “lucky break the Dodgers needed” as that night turned into a victory for LA, scoring 4 runs in the 7th inning after be down by one. Was it luck or maybe home field advantage?  Most MLB fans all over the country are still debating whether the 2nd base umpire was right to make the slide safe or not. Apparently it didn’t matter as the Dodgers were eliminated by the Mets in Game 5, making the Mets move on to the 2nd round against the Chicago Cubs.

After the Dodgers’ first round elimination, the MLB sentenced Utley to go to a hearing for his suspension but it was delayed and was pushed back to an undetermined date in late 2015 or even in Spring 2016. However, if the date was pushed back farther, Chase Utley would be forced to miss the first two games of the 2016 season. Still officials and fans are waiting when he will be called for a hearing but it might be later rather than sooner. As for the status of Ruben Tejada, he is still recovering from a “fractured right fibula” from Game 2. Though he wasn’t apart of the Mets’ victory at Dodgers Stadium, the Mets confirmed that he will play in the World Series.

Although the series  ended in elimination, Chase Utley will always be remembered from fans as “the one who saved the Dodgers” and also an enemy to the Mets fans. People claim the slide as an old school baseball slide or a bad slide which caused severe injury.  The hundreds of thousands of people in attendance at Chavez Ravine will never forget the infamous “The Controversial Utley Slide”, which got the MLB talking about still today.
