Colton High School Football

It’s a whole new year for the Colton High School football program, new coaching staff, new plays, and a new state of mind. “We’ve never had this kind of support and attention, these coaches really get into detail and focus with us one on one with each player to improve us all, they really push and support us.” said The captain and starting quarterback, senior Christopher Florez. The team surrounds him and agree with what he said with such enthusiasm, with every other player yelling out “AMEN!” I look around and see defensive captain senior Robert Moralez A.K.A “Bobby Bushay” Standing stiffly with a firm face, I ask him if he feels the same way as Florez and he responds with a bold answer, “I do agree with him, but they only do half the work, the other half comes from us, as individual players and as a team. We have to want to get better and not be lazy like last year.” With such an honest response the teams’ tone changes into a serious one nodding their heads in agreement, after getting their opinion on the coaches, I immediately ask how they feel with their new captains this year. Each player looked at Moralez and Florez, and responded instantly saying they deserve the positions, they don’t question their leadership, they obviously have full fledged trust In their captains with the way they proudly stood behind the two seniors who have played football every single year throughout high school. Seeing how they were positioned I can tell this is a hungry football team, ready to redeem themselves, ready to show the city of Colton this year is going to be different from the rest, with their intensity it almost seemed as if it were a guarantee.
