The truth about celebrating holidays

Joshua Sandoval, Reporter

Warning, this article is not for the kids at heart. Santa isn’t real, the tooth fairy was made up, and the Easter bunny is actually your parents. After you find all that out it all seems to go downhill after that, right?

Or does it? Well maybe if your life depended on the idea of them, but most likely it doesn’t. Teens today tend to think of the idea of celebrating a holiday as childish and immature. But that’s not the case. In the same way smiling can make you a better person, so can celebrating a holiday. When you’re excited for something, in this case a holiday, you tend to smile at the thought. When you smile, you become happy. When you’re happy, your mood improves. It’s that simple.

What makes a concept childish anyways? Is there anything wrong looking forward to coloring eggs? Wanting free candy by the sack fulls? Is there a problem with looking forward to receive free gifts every year? Just because you appreciated something as a kid doesn’t mean you have to grow out of it. If you don’t find any of it enjoyable with a reasonable answer or your beliefs tell you otherwise, you should enjoy holidays to the fullest.

With the holiday season finally here it’s sad to hear people hate on holidays for no reason other than “It’s childish”. It also ruins the spirit of people who actually look forward to celebrating these days. So this year instead of hating on a holiday, please take this article into consideration and respect other people’s traditions.
