Human trafficking just a new name for slavery

Paulina Gallardo, Reporter

One of the most common and the most money making criminal enterprise is human trafficking. Human trafficking is utterly inhumane and one of the most atrocious crimes against humanity. Human trafficking is usually conducted so that the individual would engage in labor or sexual acts at little or no cost.

Human traffickers have no sympathy for the vulnerable, instead they target these people and take them into their clutches with the intention of making good money on the individual. They refer to the people as “products.” Humans should not be products, humans should not be sold or bought.

Human traffickers not only use women, but they use children for their own personal economic gain. Modern human trafficking is as equally corrupt as it was in the 1800s.

Real human beings are being submitted to horrid situations when they are faced with human traffickers. People who fall victim to human traffickers are brainwashed to put on a facade and wouldn’t ask for help even if they wanted to. These people are more than often traumatized. If they were to talk about their situation, they would face dreadful consequences from their trafficker.

Many of those who favor human trafficking could argue that prostitution is an $8 billion business and if it were legalized, it would no longer be a problem. Both human traffickers and governments would make a massive amount of annual economic gain, they argue. But this is not true. The problem would not go away, people do not want to be submitted to slave trade and spend their life being under the control of others. In many countries where there is a permissive attitude toward prostitution the human trafficking rank is at the top of the list.

In the United States, we stand for freedom and equality, the human trafficking of men, women, and children should not be tolerated. As for other countries, although some people are not free, it does not mean they shouldn’t be valued. Every human’s life should be of value and no one should ever be submitted to the horrific operation of human trafficking. Modern human trafficking is essentially slavery.
