Staring down the mental barrel

Over the past year, there have been shootings, as we all know. The tragic outcomes will remain in everyone’s heart and conscience for many years to come.

The nation’s government proposed solutions to this wave of gun violence, but so far all we have is an ongoing conversation. While it is noble of them, they are focusing on the wrong idea. Guns are not necessarily the problem; it is the mental health of people that is the real issue.

If anyone took the time to examine the photos of the infamous shooters, most notably James Holmes and Adam Lanza, they would see that the two look really disturbed.

Both of them obviously had some sort of mental illness, and also, even more obviously, weren’t treated properly for their illnesses.

As a person with a few mental illnesses myself, I am sure that at least one person who is aware of that has worried that I, or someone else, will get hold of a firearm and shoot someone in the head. Rest assured everyone, I’m not going to do so.

Not only do I not have an intention of harming anyone, I have achieved the pinnacle of mental stability by myself and a few others who have my deepest gratitude. I know exactly what I am doing, and have complete control of my mind.

Lanza and Holmes, who were weak in my opinion, weren’t mentally stable. Who might be to blame for that? No one specifically, but blame can be placed upon the pathetic mental health treatments and institutes of the nation.

Instead of focusing on guns, the government should deal with mental health institutes. But gun control does get lots of publicity, so don’t expect to hear much on mental health.

Seeing as how I am as stable as can be, I do sometimes encourage others with a mental disorder to talk to me. I’m a natural punching bag, and can take physical as well as emotional pain, so don’t expect to hurt me.
