New school schedule: two thumbs down

Colton High has endured drastic changes this new school year, from students moving to the newly opened Grand Terrace High School to the new buildings shaping Colton High.

Although students were aware that changes were being made, many were taken by surprise with the outcome. In the halls of Colton High there had been talk that this school year was undergoing a few changes, it turns out that the rumors were true. Finding out that lunch as well as the daily bell schedule had changed was not much of a commotion, for they were just minor changes. When students heard that our Collaboration Day bell schedule had been moved around everyone’s jaws dropped! We were all questioning teachers and fellow students why they had been changed.

We finally got some answers: instead of getting out earlier, as last year, we would be getting out at 2:25 and school would start two hours later at 9:30. Opinions on this were many–for days the topic was collaboration day and what you thought about it. You heard both negative and positive responses, but personally I side with the negatives. I didn’t want it to change because I was so used to the old ways and too stuck on last year’s schedule. My thought on last year’s collaboration day was that I was able to get so much done but now that isn’t possible. Now that I have been through the collaboration day schedule, which is now called “late start,” I actually approve of it like many others. Starting late definitely has its benefits; you don’t find yourself watching the clock every two minutes because time has already gone by. Also, starting late gives you a better rest and most students that usually fall asleep have put that to the side and actually decide to pay attention because of the amount of rest you have had. Definitely late start has been an improvement for Colton High students.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
