Animal abuse is a problem throughout the world, so much so that organizations like PETA are continuing their struggle throughout the nation. I recently read a story online about a German shepherd named Judis; she was chained up for about ten years and extremely malnourished. Neighbors said Judis’ owners would urinate on top of her; she had never been groomed or walked outside of the gate she was held in. The German shepherd’s living conditions were horrible.

The Animal Advocates Society took her in to take care of her. After the Advocates Society groomed and nurtured her, Judis was adopted by a couple. The couple renamed the German shepherd Judith. They purchased a cart for Judith to help her walk, everywhere Judith goes she gets a lot of attention which some believe make up for the years she was looked up in the gate.

Even though animal abuse is illegal, people still manage to get away with it. Many programs are being constructed to stop animal abuse. If you were to be caught abusing your animal, prepare yourself for the consequences. In the state of California you may be placed in Federal prison for up to a year, or they may fine you anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000. In other states you may be placed in Federal Prison for up 10 years.

I personally am against animal abuse; I believe animals shouldn’t be mistreated. People in our society are ignorant and find it amusing to harm innocent creatures. Put your self in the animal’s shoes: would you like it if someone did something so terrible to you and you couldn’t speak up because there’s no one who will help you? Animals have rights like us; just because they can’t speak doesn’t mean they should be mistreated.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
