Ditching Deprives Students of Opportunities

Ditching Deprives Students of Opportunities

The whole point of getting up early and preparing for school is to take advantage of what is given to you. Sadly, not many students think this way, and it sure is a shame, because school is an opportunity to excel and expand one’s knowledge.

At Colton High School, the average student is given six periods, about an hour to an hour and a half each, enough time for you to acquire what is being handed to you in each class.

Students don’t seem to agree with the rules of going to class every day. We as teenagers must admit that we get into that phase where everything seems to be okay, when in reality we know we are doing wrong. Ditching seems to be on the rise at CHS.

It is disappointing to say, but the fact is we throw our education into the toilet when we do this on a daily basis. As a freshmen in high school you think it’s cool to ditch because you’re “down” and you’re “too cool for school;” (this doesn’t apply to every Freshmen, of course, just a few.) Being new in high school, your first instinct is to fit in–and what better way than to ditch?

I disagree completely, because your freshmen year is the easiest and should be taken advantage of and not taken for granted; it is necessary to pass every class. As a sophomore you still are in that phase of being too cool for school and don’t care what your grades are and classes seem to be boring to you. Therefore the easiest way out of it is ditching with friends and talking about more interesting things than grades. When you are a junior you begin to think, “Well, why am i behind so many credits?” and all of that–then you have to enlist into zero periods and seventh periods which cause you to stress out and work more than was usually being asked for.

Your senior year depends on who you decided to be your freshmen yea–the one who takes school for granted or the one who takes what is given to them and makes something bigger of it. Senior year is either a great year to just finish up and conceive all the knowledge, or it can be a year of stress trying to make up credits to graduate. Basically ditching might bring you a good result for an hour of gossiping while school gives you a future! Make your choice and don’t regret it.
