Slimmin’ down at the Golden Arches? Not lovin’ it!

Slimmin down at the Golden Arches? Not lovin it!

Like caring parents, fast food industries have cut down the grams of fat and sugars in their food, in order to decrease the obesity problem that is showing up to be so common in the United States. Today, 1 out of 3 children and teens in the U.S. are overweight, and a huge number of families around the world are affected by childhood obesity. Those extra pounds put kids at risk of developing serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. Overweight and obese children are often teased and excluded from team activities, leading to low self-esteem, negative body image, and even depression.

Fast food industries have made several changes to their menus making eating fast food much healthier. For example: Mc Donald’s, Burger King, KFC, Subway, and Taco Bell along with other major fast food industries have changed their ways in serving food to children. It is now mandatory that they serve HEALTHY food and not so much of junk food. They have been substituting fries and other foods for apple dippers and other nutritious vegetables. It is also mandatory to have the “Nutritious Facts” label on the product and no longer is hidden within the restaurant.

According to recent Health Dept. statistics, child obesity has risen to a total of 28.3% in San Bernardino county. We play a high part of California’s total percentage. With all the fast food places around us it gets harder and harder to eat healthy.

Next time you go out and eat make sure the menus not only look healthy, but make sure they are. Most of the fast food industries cut down on their fat and changed the way you order so that gives you a stronger chance of eating healthy. You can try different things like cutting down half the carbohydrate and fats, by not getting a burger with regular buns and instead wrapping your meat with lettuce and also order small not large. Remember it’s good to stay aware of yourself, as well as aware of others, so keep a good eye on others and make sure you help them eat healthy. You can help lower obesity around us and lower the percentage for our county.
