Mock trial finishes 2016-2017 season “with a bang”

Earlier this week Colton High School’s Mock Trial went to their last competition of the 2016-2017 school year at the San Bernardino court house. This was both an exciting and stressful time for Mock Trial “ducks” as teacher Lucy Leyva calls them.

An attorney became sick just one day before the competition, and senior Chantz Horton had to step in while senior Cristina Vargas took over his role as a witness. “Changing roles is hard enough, but doing it before our last competition was extremely stressful.” says Vargas.

Despite the unanticipated changes, Mock Trial continued to work hard in preparation  for their competition by practicing and running through their material.

During the competition, the Mock Trial team did an excellent job; they caught their opponents giving themselves extra time, and the attorneys did a stellar job of presenting the case and defending the witnesses. At times the witnesses took a few hard hits from the opponents, but were quickly able to recover.

After a fulfilling competition season, Vargas says, “I’m sad that it’s over, but I’m glad we left with a bang.”
