Colton High family loses a legend: Nolan Muhammad, RIP

Colton High School has lost one of its elder yellow jackets this year, Nolan Muhammad. Muhammad was a custodian here at CHS and worked here for about 30 years. While working here he really made an impact on the students and staff. Sadly, Muhammad was diagnosed with cancer and was fatally ill.

Muhammad was a very intelligent man with a great heart, and always had something very interesting to talk about. Whether the conversations were about his point of views on politics, history, family, he was always able to keep you interested.

He was a man who inspired many people, including students, teachers, the Brothers and Sisters Club, AP Biology Club, staff and everyone he met. “He was really dialed in on what was going on, on this campus…and the world,” says Dawud Aasiya-bey, Colton science teacher who knew Muhammad for about 10 years. Aasiya-bey said that the two of them would always say hello to each other, and their conversations would grow longer and more in depth every time they met.

“Muhammad was an elder in Colton,” Aasiya-bey says, due to the fact the he was such a wise and inspiring man. “and he passed down amazing wisdom and personal traits to everyone he met.” Aasiya-bey shared that he (Muhammad) would come into the BSU (Brothers and Sisters Club) meetings and talk to the students about being proud of who they are and not to be an embarrassment.

Nolan Muhammad got to see 30 years of change at Colton High School, and to top that off he never missed a day of work in all that time. Dedication and good work ethics were demonstrated to all the students of Colton High by Nolan Muhammad, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
