Recently, we at the Pepperbough interviewed Yaquelin Montiel, a junior here In Colton High which got selected to attend the Girl State Campaign. She was recommended by her counselor, Joe Marchiano, and selected by social studies teacher Brandon Moore, who conducted interviews with those who were interested. The candidates began at numbers of 10, which decreased to 3. The students which were selected are in three forms, the first one is the individual which was decided to go, and behind them is their alternative, and that alternative also has her own alternative. The requirements in order to participate were to have good grades, and be a junior, and will also look good on their record if or when they decide to enroll into a college or apply for a job. They favored those who had relatives which were veterans of this country.
The origination meet will occur June 23rd and will end at June 28th at the McKenna Claremont College. The participants must have a down payment from the parents of $50. No other payments are necessary besides the means of transportation. The Participants will also be housed on campus, and will have a roommate, though they may not be paired together In the other activities. The days will begin at 5AM and end around 10pm, and in that span of time, multiple events will happen, such as debates, and building their own court systems. Each participant is responsible for the means of getting there, whether it’s driving or being driven.
