Pray for our Nation

May 5th has always been known as Cinco De Mayo, the anniversary of the Mexican victory over the French during the Battle of Puebla in 1862, but this year May 5th will be known as this year’s National Day of Prayer.

Yup, May 5th is to hold two very important events this year, so what is the National Day of Prayer? It’s a nationwide prayer that takes place at 12 pm east coast time to 12pm west coast time. “The mission of the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.” says the group’s official website. Many churches throughout the country register to take part of this national day including local church, Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside.

The National Day of Prayer invited all religions, beliefs, and persona  to join in prayer to seek repentance in God’s glory, while others took the opportunity to pray for our political leaders and country (God only knows they need it.) This year’s theme is Wake Up America, as the group hopes many will look at the disaster of our country and hope political leaders will make better choices for our beloved America.

Many participants had the option to read off the national prayer written by Dr. Tony Evans. The first part reads, “Dear heavenly Father, we come to You today as a humble people desperate for Your supernatural intervention on behalf of our beloved nation.  First, we thank You for all the blessings You have bestowed on our land, blessings that have allowed us to bring so much good and benefit to not only our own citizens but also to the rest of the world. The very ideals upon which this country was founded were based on biblical truths, no matter how some try to rewrite history to deny that very fact today.”

The rest of the prayer is posted on the organization’s official website: http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org. The countdown begins for the next national day of prayer, set to take place May 4th 2017.
