China builds massive telescope, displaces citizens

China has finally lost it.. Or have we not risen to their level? Whatever the case is, China is building a 500 metre-diameter telescope that required the evacuation of 9,000 people from their homes.

Residents within 5km radius of the construction of the telescope, The Fast project, will be forced to leave their homes while being given a small compensation that families often complain about.

The Fast project began in the south-western province of Guizhou in 2011. With the size of over 30 football fields, the unveiling of the world’s largest radio telescope is expected by September.

The Fast project’s goal is to “boost the global hunt for extraterrestrial life,” according to The Guardian.

It is said that Chinese officials say the telescope’s location, Qiannan, an isolated region deep in Guizhou’s Karst mountains, is the ideal place to detect possible extraterrestrial messages.

Hoax or not, China may or may not expect contact from another being.
