Lavender Town: Pokemon urban legend, or no?

Lavender Town Syndrome, a Pokemon game, has become an urban legend.

Pokemon stands for pocket monster. Originally made in Japan in 1996, it’s a game where the players can catch and train these monsters. When Japan first released Pokemon Red/Blue and Pokemon Red/Green back in 1996, there was a town in the game known as Lavender Town.

In all four versions, the players will eventually visit Lavender Town, a small village that is more like a Pokemon graveyard with ghost and spirits. Besides the ghost and spirits, Lavender Towns creepy tune in Pokemon Red/Green for the Game Boy. Apparently when a child heard the tune, the tune would make a child sick or in extreme cases want to commit suicide.

Lavender Town can be an unsettling place for some gamers. We all see Pokemon as fuzzy and cute critters. This town is the home of the Pokemon Tower ( a building where the spirit of Marowak haunts.)

Other names Lavender Town Tone, the Lavender Town Conspiracy, or Lavender Town Suicides. The Legends Lavender Town Syndrome was born when about 100 Japanese children aged between ten and 15 commit suicide. These suicides involved jumping to their death and hanging. Other children supposedly complain about headaches or nausea. The original Lavender Town theme contained a high-pitch tone that would make kids feel like they’re losing their mind. Since young age people have the ability to hear high pitch notes, young children were suppose to be hear  the Lavender Town curse.

Some myth versions state that games’ director, Satoshi Tajiri ask for the tone to be a certain way to “annoy” the children who bought the game Pokemon Red version over Pokemon Green version. They accuse Nintendo for trying to cover up the suicide to protect the Pokemon Franchise innocence and popularity.
