New clubs rise on campus

The Movie Club with English teacher Jeremiah Dollins meets every Wednesday after school, sometimes even twice a week, in room 459. No, it’s not just watching a movie for the fun of it; this club teaches you the art of movie making so you can appreciate the process and understand how they influence the world. One day is dedicated to watching a movie and the other is to discuss what your thoughts are about the film. This club is a must if you are interested in watching films outside the mainstream. If you aren’t able to make it to the meetings, there will be links to the movie and discussions on the Colton High School Movie Club Facebook. Go like it!

In Valerie Pelletier’s room, 566, every Thursday after school, the Eco Friendly Friends Club meets. It is said that viewing nature is a great way to relax; by joining this club, you will be able to gain this benefit. Hiking, on a beautiful sunny day when the sky is clear, it sounds beautiful, but that is nothing compared to seeing a breathtaking waterfall, while a refreshing breeze carries some of the water splashing down as a mist on your face; the Eco Friendly Friends Club has the advantage of experiencing this activity. The club even participates in the L.A. River Project by going and cleaning the river; nature is a beautiful thing, so help save it. “Together we make a difference.”

The Anatomy Club meets every other Wednesday after school and is always looking for members, especially because this year is its first being an official club; joining it will bring many benefits if you’re taking Anatomy and Physiology with Mrs. Garcia. Previous students will aid those in need of help to study and prepare them for what is to come; they also have movie nights and field trips in order to fulfill their wish of understanding the human body even more. Be sure to go to room 567 if you’re interested in checking this club out!

Girls, if you are ever in need of help, go to room 619 for Girls Con Ganas (GCG) after school on Mondays and if there isn’t one on those days, it’s held on Thursday. They understand how difficult it is to get in touch with your counselors if you ever have a problem and need to talk it out; they’ve even done surveys showing that students don’t always get full support, especially when they need it. Daisy Contreras and the members of the club will always be there for you to bring awareness about how important your life choices and future plans are. The GCG Club made an appearance on the August 18 edition of the Colton Courier Weekly because of their determination to make a difference. The article addresses how the club hosted a MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) presentation, here at CHS, and even attended a media and leadership training conference in Anaheim that equipped them even further with the knowledge and skills to continue to make a difference among young women today.

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
