The 63rd annual Miss Universe pageant was held Monday, January 30 in the Philippines with over 80 contestants. Last year’s runner up Ariadna Gutierrez had a heartbreaking down fall when host Steve Harvey had incorrectly announced the winner, but this year this had no mistakes due to the fact that last year’s winner (Pia Wurtzbach) had given Steve a pair of glasses so that he was able to say the correct winner. The winner was Miss France Iris Mittenaere. Iris is a beautiful 23 year old that grew up in a little town in Northern France called Lillie City. Standing face-to-face with runner up Miss Haiti (Raquel Pelissier) was a heart racing moment for the two. Heartbeat after heartbeat Harvey had announced France as Miss Universe 2016. Miss Mittenaere was shocked to hear her name be announced.

The first category was interviews. Miss Mittenaere had stated that she loved living in Paris because it’s a beautiful city of love and charm. She goes to school to study dentistry and has two more years until she graduates. She was inspired to become a dentist because when she was younger she did not have good teeth but her dentist never gave up on her. She states that she would really love to win Miss Universe because it would be the first time since 1953 that France would win.

The second category was bikini wear, Miss Mittenaere wore a beautiful fuschia bikini. She loves to cook and recently cooked up a dish with a chef in Paris.

The final category was evening gown. The top 6 finalists were France, Kenya, Colombia,Philippines, Thailand, and  Haiti. It all came down to Miss France and Miss Haiti. Haiti and France both wore a beautiful sequined nude ball gown. Once Harvey announced Miss France as Miss Universe she was completely shocked and Miss Haiti was proud of her and gave her a hug. It was a happy ending for France as they took the title as Miss Universe for the first time in 63 years.
