Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Thats right Spongebob Squarepants! Many fans    of this fun loving animated children’s tv show had a scare this week, as it was posted on social media that the show after 17 years was to be cancelled on October 17, 2016.

The images below are what the post was based on, and faster and faster they began circulating all over media. However this claim is not true. According to ’Morning News USA’ the program Nickelodeon, which the show airs on has tweeted to fans “Nothing more that a hoax”.

It’s no surprise to some fans that this rumor is nothing more than a rumor. Spongebob Squarepants has been a favorite and successful children’s tv show on Nickelodeon for two decades. The show has been the only 90s show on Nickelodeon to still air today, making it the Top longest show.

Spongebob is a gold mine to Nickelodeon, so we can still expect to see SpongeBob much longer, thank goodness! On youtube ‘Channel Frederator’s video “107 Spongebob Squarepants facts YOU should know!” states, “Spongebob Squarepants has won over 62 awards, including 6 Annie Awards, 2 BAFTA, 2 Daytimes Emmys, 8  Golden Reel Awards, and 13 Kids Choice Awards.” He also goes on to say that, “ during the first ten years, Spongebob generated over 8 billion dollars of revenue”, Spongebob still today makes 60% of Nickelodeon’s earrings.
