“Anatomy of a boyfriend” sounds like a strange and out of the ordinary book, but it’s anything but that. That’s what makes it perfect. I mean as perfect as any “young adult” book be.

Daria Snadowsky does not hold back she is raw and up-front about everything from sex to heartbreak. She tells a story of a young girl that falls in love and eventually just like most teenage girls she gets dumped. In-between the love and devastation there were multiple sexual encounters between the main character (Dominique) and her love interest (Wes). She was so real and blunt about it all, it made me question if I even want to have sex, ever. She describes all the feelings that never get brought up when talking about sex. In an interview she says “reality doesn’t fade to black after a kiss.”  She also explains how she related to not only to Dominique but to other supporting characters also, no one is a one dimension character everyone expresses feelings in some point of the book. She doesn’t just focus on Dominique but she focus’ on the high school experience altogether but more specifically “puppy love.”

I recommend this book not only to high school students but adults also. You will relive the awkward, uncomfortable, hilarious, and unforgettable times in high school. For the young adults, if you think sex and your first “love” will be like a fairytale, wake up from that dream and read about the reality of it all.
